Easy Ways to Watermark a Video

Q: We are looking for “open source” (or free!) software to place a watermark on video. Any ideas? Not sure why we are being asked to include a watermark to the videos in the first place. Viewers I speak with are annoyed.

A: Inconspicuously floating over the bottom-right corner of a video, a watermark logo (or “bug”) provides viewers with instant recognition of the program’s source, even as it builds further brand awareness.

It can also be used to protect yourself when sending work to a client that hasn’t been paid for. We will often put a watermark on the video to keep the client from making a copy, and then refusing payment.

Software you can use for the PC:

Any professional non linear editing software will do the trick such as Adobe Premiere, Avid, Sony Vegas or Movie Maker. (Click the links to learn more)

You can add the watermark as a simple composite if you bring it in from Photoshop with an alpha channel.

Standalone software:

My got feeling is that these kind of products cost a lot, an average of $50-100.

What i found is this watermarking software: video watermarker from http://www.moonvalleysoft.com/video-watermarker-p-41.html

On many websites is reported as $19, but actually the price is $16 and it did the job it is supposed to do.
I recommend it, especially if you are both on a budget and under pressure.
