For re-editing DVDs there are a few methods to try:

1. Convert the DVD VOBs back to an MPG file or MPEG2, AC3, MPA, WAV elemantary streams(called demultiplexing) for easier editing and authoring.

2. Simply import the DVD's video footage you need (from a DVD player) into your favorite editing software and do with it what you want from there.

All the audio in each broadcast episode sounds normal in the Final Cut Express project itself and after its imported into iDVD. The problem comes after they burn the DVDs. Their DVDs sound perfectly normal on most computers and in some DVD players. All of my burned DVDs freeze. No matter what I do I can't get it to play, fast forward, etc. It seems that all of the discs freeze in approximtely the same area--when you are about 3/4 of the way thru the disc. All I wanted to do was transfer some old family vids to DVD. So went out and got iLife (for iMovie) a LaCie external dvd writer, maxtor 300gb external hard drive and analogue to DV converter. I have quite a few miniDV tapes that I want to begin archiving and editing (I use Pinnacle Studio 10 currently) I want to archive these tapes in full quality on DVD, and I want to use the DVD to import into Studio for editing, to save wear and tear on my camcorder. After capturing my video to an AVI file and then editing it, my video editing software (Pinnacle Studio 9) converts the file to the MPEG-2 format in order to create a DVD. Is there any reason not to capture the footage direct to MPEG-2 for archive and ease of access for future editing, since that conversion will be happening anyways?
