For re-editing DVDs there are a few methods to try:

1. Convert the DVD VOBs back to an MPG file or MPEG2, AC3, MPA, WAV elemantary streams(called demultiplexing) for easier editing and authoring.

2. Simply import the DVD's video footage you need (from a DVD player) into your favorite editing software and do with it what you want from there.
