Some think the ADS unit or the Hard Drive is bad. If you disconnect the FW800 cable from the external HD, then repower the drive, it will boot and you can plug the FW800 back in and it will mount on the desktop.
There is a little fix and that is to reset NV-RAM and your boot issues with external FW800 HD will go away.
Boot Mac while holding down the Apple-Option-O-F keys at the prompt type: RESET-NVRAM (press enter) RESET-ALL (Press enter)
Then your mac will reboot.
After doing this your drives should mount normally! We will post a text version of those instructions in the show notes of this podcast in case you missed it?.
After you try this and the issue still exists or you?re having some capturing issues and dropped frames, you may need to buy an PC card with a firewire port to put on your PCMCIA card slot- G-tech makes a nice one for about 80 bucks-- that way the camera so the Hard drive are on separate Buses.
There is really no other work around.
