Something on your computer is filling up the cache - which prompts Final Cut to shut down.
- Trash your preferences.
- Repair permissions.
- Update to the latest version.
- Open the application, not the project.
- Does it open? Try to open the project from inside FCE.
Trashing preferences is the #1 fix - it restores the application to it's default condition as if the software has just been installed Now, you have to do this absolutly right or you will get the same error message. Deleting .plist is not enough.

Also, if you intend to reinstall Final Cut Express you must first completely UNINSTALL it or you will be trying to build on corrupt files:
If what is mentioned is still not the solution:
- Open Disk Utility , run Repair Disk Permissions on your system HD and run Repair Disk on any other HDs you have.
- If you're using an external hard drive make sure it's formatted properly. Was it zero erased and reformatted as Mac OS Extended
before you started to work with it?
- Adjust the Memory and Caches sizes to accommodate your media.
