Mini DV tape rewinders are an excellent idea to keep wear and tear away from your camcorder or dedicated decks. Fast forward features can be a time saver and they can also be used to get rid of any slack in the tape.

One caveat: you do take the risk of snapping your tape. We use a rewinder only after capturing all clips and making backups - just in case.

We highly recommend the Impact DV Cassette Rewinder.

The Maxell MDV-RW1 Mini Dv Tape Rewinder and the Power-2000 rewinder are two more to consider.

Stay away from the Kinyo KV-885 rewinders and anything from SIMA or Lenmar.
