How to Create Video Lightboxes

Question: Loved your webinar on the Principles of  Effective Website Design for Video Business - great information. One thing I noticed was the eye catching and simple site you designed and used as an example to explain the content framework model. You stressed a page had to load very quickly – but what about the videos? When using one video on a page my site tends to load very slow. On your site the page has at least 9. Please advise.

Answer: Those are not actual videos but a series of still images with a “play” icon on the top to prompt the visitor to press play. When the user clicks the image, a video pops in using a JQuery lightbox:

Here are some free versions of the same thing if you’re more advanced

- LightBox Clone
- Video Box
- MultiBox

Yes, the point is to keep the page loading fast- those videos are hosted away from the main load.

There are a few video lightbox plugins for WordPress and Drupal but most didn’t work as well as I expected.
