Listener tip: Treo video editing

I’m a listener from Australia and firstly wanted to say I love the show! I was actually listening to your Feb 26 podcast in my car using my Treo 680 smartphone and was quite amused to hear your conversation with Palm re how to edit video from the Treo. Anyway thanks to your inspiration, I set myself the challenge of seeing if it was possible.

So I recorded some video and then found out that Palm’s built in PIM Desktop software automatically syncs the video from the Treo over to your PC. Palm Desktop lets you view the footage but unfortunately does not include a “save as” option to simply convert the video to AVI.

Instead I had to download a program called Mobile 3GP I used this program to convert the 3gp file into AVI. From here I then imported the footage into Adobe Premiere Pro 2. Everything worked fine except the video was upside down for some strange reason! So I did a simple rotation effect..and presto…Treo Video footage in Premiere Pro…ready to make your next feature film!

note: additional 3GP software can be found here

Kind regards,
Matt
